It takes wisdom to have a good family, and it takes understanding to make it strong." - Proverbs 24:3

Beach

We decided to make it a beach day since it was so nice at our house, since we haven't had any truly hot days this summer. The crazy thing about Ventura though is that you can drive 15 minutes in any direction and the weather is usually completely different! So driving 7 miles to the pier completely changed the weather. It was way cooler and kinda overcast, not good beach weather, but we made the best of it and the girls had fun. They pretended to swim in the sand, made sand castles, and I couldn't keep the sand outta Evelyn's mouth!

The girls had to go down this crazy slide on our way to the car!

Haircuts

The girls finally got their hair cut! I have been putting this off for so long because I was afraid Evvy would look like little boy afterwards, and if I made a appt for Aubrey I'd have to have evvys cut too. Aubrey has had one other "real" hair cut, right before her 1st birthday, and I was so unhappy with it. She had heavy bangs that went straight across and the poor girl looked like a boy! So we put it off and put it off until now and Wow! They both are soo much cuter without hair hanging in their eyes (though I thought they were already the cutest little girls :) We found a great little kids salon in Ojai and the set up made it much easier for them to sit still long enough. I, Of course, took my camera along and got tons of pics :)

SB Solstice Parade

We spent today in Santa Barbara at the Summer Solstice Parade. My sisters, Amanda and Melissa, went with us and we met up there with two of Craig's co-workers. Aubrey was spending the day with Laurie so it was just Evvy with us and she definitely got a little spoiled today because of it!

No!

I was just sitting here at the desk writing a post when Evvy came over and tried to play with the buttons on the computer. After our computer crashed last year and we may have lost about a year and a halves worth of pictures, including all of Evvy's newborn pictures (we still haven't sent the hard drives in to see if it can be recovered), I am terrified that it'll crash again and don't let the girls even touch it. So when Evvy came over I told her "No" and because she is at that age where it's fun to test the limits, she told me "No" right back! I knew I shouldn't encourage her to tell me no but it was so cute to hear her little laugh and see her face light up while saying a new word, that I couldn't help myself and laughed along with her.

I already know we're going to be in for it when the girls are older!

Pool Fun

While the summer weather here has certainly been lacking, we decided to use the pool anyway. Craig braved the cold water and went in with the girls and I used the excuse of taking pics to avoid getting in with them ;)

Emma

I realize we haven't introduced you to Emma yet...Craig and I discussed getting a pet for the girls for a while now, since allergies are common on my family's side and growing up with animals is thought to reduce your chances off getting them, plus having a pet is just fun! So we decided to get one as Aubrey's Birthday present, though she's Evvy's cat too :) She's part Siamese and part Bengal and was only 8 weeks old when we got her. She was the only Siamese looking cat out of the litter and the only female, so it was an easy choice. Aubrey likes to tell everyone that she "has blue eyes like Daddy." I'm sure you saw her in the post about Aubrey's Party but here are more pics.

Already so much bigger!

Dr. Appointments

The girls both had appointments today, Aubrey had her 3 year appt and Evvy had her 15 month appt a month late. This was Aubrey's first real Big Girl Appt! Nurse Diane took her to the big scale and weighed and measured her, and then had her sit on the chair instead of table where she took her blood pressure, measured her head, and pricked her finger to test her iron levels. She did great through all of it! I completely expected tears when she got her finger pricked but she was a champ! I was severely anemic while pregnant with Evelyn and had to have my iron levels checked about every two weeks and it brought me close to tears, so I was such a proud mama when she just calmly sat watching!

After Evelyn got her measurements taken we headed to our room to wait for Dr. Sally. Aubrey's iron levels came back a tad bit low, so we'll be eating more red meat but, other than that, both girls checked out fine.

Aubrey weighs 30lbs (42%) and is 36 3/4 inches tall (also 42%)

Evelyn weighs 22lbs (32 %), is 32 1/4 inches tall ( 87%), and her head circ. is 18 1/4 (56%)

Dr. Sally always says she's amazed at how good the girls are and this time was no exception.
They both always just play quietly until its their turn to be looked over and then just sit perfectly still while Dr. Sally examines them. Aubrey didn't have any shots at this appt. but Evelyn did :'( Though she handled it like a champ like always, not even a tear! Nurse Diane is always amazed by that and I really think it has to do with the fact that I stay calm and relaxed while they get shots so they don't feed off my emotions, because when both girls get shots in the same visit there is always tears. Aubrey usually gets worked up my them and in turn Evelyn gets worked up over Aubrey's response. Anyway this time I took my camera along and got some pics.
